What is community living support for people with IDD?
Covenant AbleHaven provides community living and support services that help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) live as independently as possible. These services pair a stable home environment with hands-on skill-building, so each person can gain confidence and make real progress toward their own goals at home and in the community.
Support is individualized to the person, not standardized. Everyday living skills such as cooking, managing money, personal care, and using transportation are taught in real settings rather than classrooms. Our team also helps each person build social connections, take part in community activities, and take on more responsibility over time. The goal is not to do things for the people we serve. It is to help them do more for themselves.
Community living support is designed for adults with IDD who want to live in a supported setting while still receiving the level of care they need to stay safe, healthy, and engaged.
What is Community Living and Support (CLS)?
Community Living and Support (CLS) is an individualized service that provides people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with hands-on help with daily living tasks. Each CLS plan is built around what the person wants and needs, so the support fits the individual rather than a fixed program.
CLS can include help with personal care, cooking, cleaning, and household routines, as well as support for learning new skills and participating in community activities. The type and level of help adjust over time as the person grows and their goals change.
The purpose of CLS is to help each person feel more confident, safe, and included, and to build the skills that make greater independence possible. At Covenant, our team works closely with families to create clear, caring plans that support each person's progress and help them reach their own goals.
Where does Covenant AbleHaven provide community living and support services?
Covenant AbleHaven provides community living and support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families across North Carolina. Support is delivered locally, through a trusted network of trained caregivers and professionals who work within each person's own community.
Delivering care close to home matters. It lets people stay connected to the family, neighbors, and routines they already know while still receiving the daily support they need. This local model reduces common barriers to care, such as long travel distances and unfamiliar settings, and it helps each person stay fully included in community life.
Our goal is to make quality support accessible where each person already lives, so care fits into their life instead of pulling them away from it. Wherever we serve across North Carolina, the standard of support stays the same: individualized, respectful, and built around the person's own goals.
